The Madderverse (the “Site”) is operated by Mad Sundar LLC. By using the Site, you agree to the privacy notice and terms below. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
Privacy
We've designed the Site to collect as little information as possible. We do not run ads, we do not sell data, and we do not build user profiles.
How this works across games. Most games on The Madderverse are entirely self-contained — they run in your browser, have no accounts, and send us nothing beyond the aggregate analytics described below. A few games offer optional online features such as a sign-in or a shared gallery. Those games are clearly marked and each has its own privacy & legal page that explains exactly what it collects and how to delete it; for that game, its own page controls. This currently applies to: Pootery — see the Pootery Privacy & Legal page.
What we collect
- Aggregate visit counts via GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service. GoatCounter records the page you visited, your browser type, screen size, the referring page, and a country derived from your IP address. No cookies are set, no personal information is stored, and no profiles are built. GoatCounter does not share data with advertisers.
- Local game progress — high scores, saved pots, achievements, and similar in-game state — is stored on your device using your browser's
localStorage. This data never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data deletes it. - Optional public submissions in Pootery. When you choose to submit a pot to the public gallery, enter a head-to-head pot battle, or vote on a battle entry, the following is sent to a third-party database (Supabase, described under “Third parties” below) so other players can see it:
- The pot you made (its shape data and the painted glaze image).
- The name you give the pot (up to 40 characters; optional).
- The byline you choose (up to 40 characters; optional, defaults to “anonymous”).
- A random per-browser identifier (UUID) generated the first time you submit or vote. It is used only to prevent double-voting and to mark entries as “yours” on this device. It is not tied to any real-world identity. Clearing your browser data resets it.
What we do not collect
- Email addresses, phone numbers, real names, or other directly identifying information, in the core self-contained games. (Games with an optional account — currently Pootery — may collect an email or Google sign-in for that account; see that game's privacy page.)
- Account credentials for the core self-contained games (those games have no accounts or sign-ins).
- Precise location data; only country-level visit aggregates are recorded by GoatCounter.
- Tracking cookies, advertising identifiers, browser fingerprints, or social-media trackers.
- Microphone, camera, contacts, or device sensor data.
- Any information from children directly. We do not knowingly solicit personal information from any visitor, including children.
User-submitted content in Pootery
The public gallery and pot battles in Pootery let players share their creations with each other. Submissions are visible to all other players. Please keep submissions appropriate for a general audience: no sexually explicit imagery, no hate symbols, no threats or harassment, no personal information about yourself or others, and nothing else that violates these terms. Every gallery and battle entry has a Report button you can use to flag inappropriate content. We review reports and remove offending submissions; serious or repeated violations may result in the underlying device identifier being blocked from future submissions. Reports can also be filed directly through madsundar.com.
Children's privacy
Most games on The Madderverse are designed for general audiences and are appropriate for children: they collect no personal information from any visitor, so for those games we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 within the meaning of the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), or from children under 16 within the meaning of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR-K). Games that offer an optional account or online features — currently only Pootery — are intended for ages 13 and up and are not directed to children under 13; what they collect and how to delete it is described on that game's own privacy page.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has somehow provided personal information to us, please contact us via madsundar.com and we will promptly investigate and, if applicable, delete the information.
Third parties
The Site uses two third-party services:
- GoatCounter for aggregate visit analytics, described above. Used site-wide.
- Supabase hosts the database that stores public pot submissions, battle entries, and votes for Pootery. Supabase processes only the data described under “What we collect” above — submitted pots, optional names and bylines, and a random per-browser identifier — and only when you choose to use the public features. Their handling of that data is governed by Supabase's privacy policy.
We do not embed advertising networks, social-media trackers, chat widgets, or other third-party scripts. The Site is hosted on GitHub Pages; standard server logs maintained by GitHub may apply to the connection itself, governed by GitHub's privacy statement.
External links
The Site may link to external websites (such as madsundar.com or GoatCounter). Once you leave the Madderverse, this privacy notice no longer applies, and the destination site's policies govern.
Terms of Use
What you can do
- Play the core games for free, as much as you'd like.
- Share links to the games freely.
- Show the games to friends, family, classrooms, libraries, or community spaces.
Pricing & in-app purchases
The Madderverse hub and the core gameplay of every game on it are free, and the core experience will remain free. Some games — including Pootery — may offer optional paid content packs in the future (for example: additional glazes, clay types, themed pot sets, or seasonal decorations). Any paid content will be:
- Always optional. Paid content will never gate the core gameplay loop or block features you already had access to for free.
- Bought once. Where we offer paid content, it will be sold as a one-time purchase through your platform's standard billing (such as Google Play in-app purchases). We do not plan to introduce subscriptions for game features.
- Clearly priced. Each pack will display its price up front before purchase.
We will not show advertisements in the games and we will not put existing free features behind a paywall. Charges, refunds, and billing disputes for in-app purchases made through Google Play are governed by Google Play's terms; other platforms are governed by their respective billing terms. If our approach to pricing ever changes materially, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the change.
What you cannot do
- Mirror, rehost, or redistribute the games or their assets as your own.
- Modify the games and present the modified versions as official Madderverse releases.
- Reverse-engineer the Site or its games to extract assets for commercial use.
- Use the Site or its content in any way that violates applicable law or harms other users.
